But a greater understanding of metallurgy and modern IT solutions are helping the major manufacturers of today increase machine performance and efficiency by more than the odd percentage point. German company Siemens, one of the world's largest power equipment manufacturers, has been developing steam turbine technology for many years. Like many companies in the market, its position has been boosted by merger and acquisition activity. But this has also had a big impact on technical developments.
