It's been a busy summer for new gas turbine developments. In May, Alstom Power launched its new GT10C industrial turbine aimed at the expectant growth in the combined heat and power market. To prove that competition in the generation equipment market is as fierce as ever, GE Power Systems has gone one step further and launched two new gas turbines. Each is geared towards different industry sectors - the MS9001FB targets the market for large-scale combined-cycle systems, and the MS6001C is suited to cogeneration applications. The CHP market in particular has attracted significant attention from prime mover manufacturers. Alstom's GT10C is rated at 30MW, which gives it good coverage in the small-medium size turbine range. Gas engine producers are bringing larger machines to the industry; Waertsilae recently launched its 50DF rated at 17.1MW. With GE's 6C gas turbine, cogenerators and small plant developers have an even wider choice of generating equipment, especially if the aero-deriva- t tive turbine market is also considered.
