摘要

Africa's energy industry is undergoing rapid liberalisation, and attracting several global players to a continent faced with severe power deficits. New power projects in countries like Mozambique, Uganda, Tanzania and Ghana are among the biggest investments these countries have ever seen. A key feature across much of the continent is that hydro is losing its dominant position, owing to concerns over its cost and negative environment effects. Thermal and solar are in, while in South Africa research into nuclear and other 'green' energy is underway. Noteworthy too, is that energy-deficient states are increasingly inter-connecting to neighbours' grids, or pushing for joint power projects.
