摘要

Finland has long been at the forefront of power engineering innovation. And as Europe considers using diverse fuel sources, such as biomass, for power generation, it is in the Nordic country that technology is being put into practice. The pulp and paper mill in Kuusankoski is the third largest in Europe, with a capacity of 800,000 tonnes/paper per year. Such is its need for power and heat that in June 2000, its holding company Kymin Voima Oy ordered an on-site cogeseration plant. The company was formed expressly for this plant and is jointly owned by Finnish forest industry power company Pohjolan Voima and local utility Kouvolan Seudun Saehkoe. Situated 5km from the plant is the 50,000-population towns of Kuusankoski and Kouvola that will benefit from district heating. The new plant will produce a total of 76MW of back-pressure electricity for the Kymi Paper mill, owned by UPM-Kymmene and Kouvolan Seudan Saehkoe. It will also generate 125MW of process heat and 15MW of district heat (DH) for Kymi Paper, plus 40MW DH for the two towns.
