摘要

Deregulation of power markets on both sides of the Atlantic has led to the opening up of national markets. This in turn, has increased the pressure on facility operators and service suppliers both in terms of generating profit and continuing to meet stringent safety standards. The industry must look for ways to improve the running of the plant throughout its entire engineering life - cycle, from the engineer procure construct (EPC) phase to operation and decommissioning. A critical factor is the management of plant information which involves the creation, processing and assessment of large amounts of plant data. Varying estimates quote that between 60-80 per cent of engineering project time is spent in searching for valid and accurate data before critical decisions are made. The industry has, generally, invested heavily in IT to manage this data during the design and construction of plant.
