摘要

The power ministry offices in New Delhi today reflect a sign of change and a sense of purpose. Polished granite floors, brand new upholstery, murals on the wall, wall to wall carpeting - after nearly a decade of policy perambulations, reality is finally beginning to sink in. In generation alone India needs an investment of US$60 billion to fund the 58,000MW needed to power the country until 2003. With an almost equivalent investment needed in transmission and distribution, the power sector in India has the potential to be the largest market in the developing world.
