The current suppliers are engineering companies who are well established in other markets such as automotive or marine engines but a number are looking at the power sector as a new source of income.rnTheir components are at least of equal quality to OEM supply, although some companies claim higher specifications, but all come at a lower cost. This could destabilise the traditional situation where gen-set manufacturers sell new plant at cost but make their money from selling a set of recommended spares with the generator and then supplying replacements over time. It could also affect those engineering companies that only supply OEMs. Gen-set manufacturers are aware of alternative sources of supply but are not commenting publicly on developments apart to point out that non-approved parts would immediately invalidate any warranties and service agreements.
