As a result no lubricant is used in any of the exposed components in its IP67 class point machines, setting systems and turnouts. This avoids the risk of sand or dust preventing effective operation, while those that do require lubrication are fully-sealed and encapsulated in water tight casing which is proven to prevent any dust or sand from entering. This approach to development is proving beneficial, with hundreds of voestalpine systems now installed and operating successfully across the region, including on Saudi Arabia's Haramain High Speed Project, the North-South heavy-haul railway and the Damman - Riyadh line, and Dubai's Al Sufouh and Burj Khalifa light rail lines, voestapline has also secured contracts to supply its IP67 class point machines for Etihad Rail's inaugural railway project from Ruwais to Shah and Habshan in the United Arab Emirates which is due to open in early 2015, all the work base turnouts for the Mecca -Medina high-speed line in Saudi Arabia, the first phase of which is due to open next year, and the rails, point machines and turnouts for two lines of the Riyadh Metro, which will open its first phase in 2018.
