Improving the interconnectivity of the network and relieving stress on existing services by providing more travel options is at the heart of the planned 17km Shatin -Central Link. The line will also help to revitalise some old districts of Kowloon by plugging gaps in the MTR network that will establish two new rail corridors, making it possible to reach the city's far north and south, or east and west on a single train. Construction is set to begin next year on the estimated $HK 60bn undertaking which is in effect two separate projects.
