The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved $US 754m in assistance to rebuild road and rail infrastructure. Included in the plans is the construction of new track and stations from Mazar-e-Sharif to Andkhoy on the recently-rehabilitated line to Uzbekistan. Austrian Federal Railways (OBB) may soon be allowed to participate more widely in operations outside its home market after CEO Mr Christian Kern said the railway would be willing to launch a reduced-cost carrier in southeastern Europe with an international partner.
