Shares in Finmeccanica-owned signalling and systems company Ansaldo STS have risen sharply following newspaper reports in mid-September which stated that General Electric is "close" to a takeover of the Italian company. While Ansaldo STS has refused to comment on the reports, Finmeccanica chief executive Mr Giuseppe Orsi admits that the company is looking at ways to resolve structural problems at both Ansaldo STS and AnsaldoBreda as well as its aeronautical division following weaker than expected first-half results.
