While Hitachi is already delivering its first rolling stock order to Europe in the shape of Javelin emus for British commuter South Eastern Trains, the massive SET order will allow it to establish a manufacturing presence on the continent for the first time. Hitachi is assessing three potential sites for its British plant, which once operational could supply trains for a variety of operators across Europe. Agility Trains chairman Mr Chris Stokes told IRJ that Hitachi plans to bid for contracts to supply commuter emus for Thameslink, and later Crossrail, and confirmed that these would be assembled in Britain.
