DSB is set to benefit from the failure so far of privatisation in Denmark. It expects to retain its existing services until at least 2010. Danish State Railways (DSB) is currently negotiating with the government to extend its existing operating franchise, covering 85% of services on the national network, for at least a further five years from the start of 2005. DSB's existing five-year contract runs until the end of 2004, but the crisis that hit passenger rail services as a result of privatisation of some regional services earlier this year has persuaded the Ministry of Transport that it needs to have a further contract in place well ahead of the next franchise period.
