The "Decofast" continuous steam decatising machine under pressure has been designed and constructed taking into account the combination of physical and mechanical parameters and their adjustment possibility. Flexibility in the applications is the distinguishing feature. Thanks to its stronger treatment conditions as to the atmospheric means, the machine is able to partially subtract the sometimes excessive setting level of the kier decatising. The setting level of a fabric largely depends on regain (R%) and temperature (T℃) conditions, as shown by the well known glass transition curves in fig. 1. At every R value corresponds a glass transition temperature, T1 (curve t_1) and T2 (curve t_2) respectively over which the fibre becomes "rubber-like", being able to be easily deformed due to a rearrangement of the wool chains. When the fibre is then dried and/or cooled, the transition curve is crossed downwards towards the vitreous state and the chains mobility is suddenly reduced, setting takes place.
