When eco-friendly natural dyes are applied on textiles using highly polluting metallic mordents, the end product ceases to be eco-friendly in nature. In the dyeing of denim with harda and catechu, stannous chloride, a highly polluting metallic mordant was replaced with tartaric acid, an eco-friendly mordant, and potassium alum, a less polluting mordant. The study investigates the prospects of developing eco-friendly, natural dyed denim and thus natural dyed garments.
