One of the world's largest suppliers of yarn and piece dyeing machinery and automation and monitoring systems came into being on 1 January 2003, with the merger of Scholl Switzerland AG and Then GmbH (D). Dr. Carl Cordes and Thomas Gerhard explained how it came about in a very frankly conducted interview. Then GmbH (D) was founded in Chemnitz (D) in 1919, and is active throughout the world as a producer of finishing machinery in discontinuous yarn and piece dyeing and control and monitoring systems. Scholl AG (CH), founded in 1937, produces dyeing machinery and has branches all over the world.
