On 2-3 December 1997, Clemson University held a major warp preparation conference called "Slashing Update 1997". Attended by some 150 executives mainly from the USA's south-eastern "textile belt" - but also by delegates from Canada and Mexico - the conference was held for the first time at the new Madren Conference Center on Lake Hartwell at the Clemson University campus.
