摘要

In 2003, it was noticed that leaf damage was being caused to a plantation of Pittosporum (Pittosporaceae) at Salterbridge, Cappoquin, Co Waterford in the southeast of Ireland. It is believed that part of the crop was damaged in 2002 and that the damage became more widespread in 2003. Pittosporum is a genus of small evergreen trees, mainly from Australasia. The foliage is used in bouquets etc. and is commonly seen in florists' shops. In October 2003, AW sent samples to RD in order to ascertain the cause of the problem. The submitted leaves were distorted especially at the tip of the shoots and there was pitting. RD suspected that the damage was caused by the psyllid Trioza vitreoradiata (Maskell). He forwarded the plant material to JPOC who discovered that several adult psyllids were present. These were identified as ♂♂♀♀ of T. vitreoradiata using Martin and Malumphy (1995). The species is not mentioned in either Hodkinson and White (1979) or White and Hodkinson (1982), having been discovered since their publication.
