Nucor Corporation's iron carbide plant in Trinidad, West Indies, has been operating for 18 months. During that time, plant production has risen from an average of 10 percent of capacity to 60 percent of capacity. Nucor Corporation started up its 900 metric tons/day iron carbide plant in July 1994, and has found that the process produces a high quality iron carbide. This paper will discuss the major process variables and their importance in achieving design capacity, along with results of tests using the carbide to supplement scrap metal atNucorCrawfordsville (IN).
