Continuous casting has become the most efficient and economical method by which to manufacture steel in the world today. Shrouding the metal from the ladle to the mold has become necessary to maintain high metal quality during casting. This involves using refractory tubes, known as ladle shrouds, and submerged-entry nozzles (SENs). Figure 1 shows a schematic illustration of the continuous casting process.
