iSeries access for web lets you use a browser to work with iSeries resources, but in many environments, you need access to multiple iSeries servers. If you are in this situation, containing the Web-serving environment on a single server can really help with the cost, performance, and administration issues that may arise when Web serving is propagated to many servers. You can install and configure iSeries Access for Web on a single iSeries server and then configure it to connect to other iSeries servers in the network. This article explores the possibilities of using a central iSeries server to provide a gateway-like function to allow access to multiple iSeries servers. First, let's review the Web-serving environment in which there is one iSeries server. In Figure 1, a user is running applications in a Web browser (Tier 1 in the diagram) that sometimes require resources on the iSeries server. The user could be accessing the iSeries over the Internet or an intranet.
