When a county government in U.K.'s northeast Wales found itself suffering from server-room sprawl, it made the decidedly unbureaucratic decision that less is more. The IT department of the Flintshire County Council burgeoned with iSeries, pSeries, and Intel systems until they were all corralled onto one new i5. IBM iSeries business partner REAL Solutions has completed the consolidation of Flintshire County Council's AIX 5.3-based applications onto the i5. IBM announced support for iSeries partitions running AIX last May, and this is one of the world's first examples of its pSeries-based flavor of Unix running natively alongside OS/400 in a real business implementation.
