Common gateway interface (CGI) programming has been available on the iSeries for a few years now. Dating back to at least V3R2, IBM has supplied APIs that allow programmers to create fully functional Web pages without the need for expensive and resource-intensive solutions. Today more than ever, shops are busy trying to find the best way to provide interactive Web applications to their customers and users. With so many options available, and some being more heavily marketed than others, the easiest and best solution for most shops is often overlooked. Using the APIs that are already available on the iSeries, either directly or through the use of a third-party utility, iSeries programmers are finding that the one technology IBM seems to be trying to suppress is the one that really makes the most sense to use.
