I reviewed Alain Kornhauser's September 2014 column-"Transportation Engineering and SmartDrivingCars: What are Smart Driving Cars?"-and have many unad-dressed concerns regarding "autonomous vehicles" (AV) and "smart driving vehicles," particularly with regard to motorcyclists. Let's begin with the article's statement, "By 'Cars' I mean all forms of roadway vehicle transportation, including cars, trucks, and buses of all varieties." Motorcycles are omitted.This is part of a pattern. Other advocates of these technologies such as the Canadian Automated Vehicles Centre of Excellence also omit motorcycles from the discussion and refuse to address the omission when it is brought to their attention.
