Strategic Highway Research Is More About People than Pavements

摘要

As people design, build, and use the United States' highway systems, technologies present both risk and opportunity. Drivers, for example, rely on and interact with many technologies both inside their cars and in the roadway environment. The more we know about those interactions, the better equipped we will be to improve the safety and efficiency of the transportation system and t enhance our quality of life. These goals of the second Strategic Highway Research Program are advanced through the projects described in this article and through the array of tools and products that will be available in the coming months and years. Especially during the critical transition from research to implementation, when feedback is so valuable, SHRP 2 staff and their partners at AASHTO and FHWA encourage ITE members to stay informed and to offer their input at SHRP2@nas.edu.
