A new Baggage Tray System (BTS) was previewed via video by Daifuku Webb at the AAAE Conference & Exhibition in Reno on 19-22 May.James Osborn, project director in the airport baggage-handling division, told IHS Jane's that a prototype had been built and that the company is "ready to take it to market".The BTS drops each item of baggage into an individual tray that is embedded with an RFID tag.The IATA-standard bag label is matched with the RFID tag to give each tray a unique address and provide positive bag tracking, Daifuku Webb said. Riding on two small belts rather than a much larger single conveyor, the system operates at up to 10m/sec.
