Low-cost carriers could be served by a new airport for Moscow under proposals confirmed by Russian airline UTair on 22 May. Yermolino Airport would be the fourth airport for the Moscow and would be built about 60 km from the city, on the site of a military airfield. UTair envisages a consortium investing RUR6 billion (USD190 million) to build an airport capable of handling up to 6 million passengers annually. The Russian government approved the plan in January 2013, and in February the regional government announced plans to rebuild the airport by 2014.
