The Iranian military has admitted that the frigate Damavand lost two crew members and was badly damaged when it hit a breakwater as it entered its home port of Bandar-e Anzali during a storm on 10 January. Social media imagery showed the ship stuck on the breakwater, but the military initially said it suffered only minor damage. However, military spokesman General Shahin Taghikhani told journalists on 15 January that an assessment had shown the vessel had suffered serious damage and requires a complete overhaul. Commissioned in March 2015, Damavand is Iran's only frigate on the Caspian Sea.
