There are a lot of reasons why multilateral defence co-operation is booming among European NATO member states, such as the Franco-British relationship, co-operation between Germany and the Netherlands, Spanish and Italian connections in Southeast Europe, and efforts like the Visegrad Group (V4): an emerging defence collective involving the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia that could ultimately include Croatia and other regional players. Building on this trend, arguably the most important development in European security is the expanding relationship between France and Germany, which has potentially profound policy, procurement, and operational implications.
