The last major airborne operations undertaken anywhere in the world have taken place in Africa, with French forces having conducted multiple static-line parachute jumps throughout the Sahel since 2013. Airborne operations are one of the more striking uses for transport aircraft, although their day-to-day logistics support role remains vital. In January 2017, for example, two Nigerian Air Force (NAF) C-130 Hercules medium transport aircraft and a single Senegalese Air Force Indonesian Aerospace CN235-220 transport were used to shuttle troops and supplies as part of the Economic Community of Western African States' (ECOWAS) Operation 'Restore Democracy'. The operation aimed to force Gambian President Yayah Jammeh to hand over power to his democratically elected successor, Adama Barrow.
