India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved materiel acquisitions worth INR71.84 billion (USD1.066 billion) and sanctioned the procurement of a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF), MoD sources told IHS Jane's on 27 December. The purchase of six multi-mission maritime aircraft for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) for INR55 billion received acceptance of necessity (AON) clearance on 23 December from India's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), which is headed by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. AON is the first stage of clearance in the MoD's Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP).
