The Russian-made Sukhoi Su-35 'Flanker-E' multirole fighter could be the last combat aircraft to be imported by China in view of the country's progress in developing its own military technology, the China Daily newspaper reported on 6 January. Citing statements carried by the People's Liberation Army's (PLA's) website, the state-owned newspaper reported that the PLA "takes pride in no longer needing Russian-made air defence missiles or transport aircraft because it now has the indigenous, cutting-edge HQ-9B long-range surface-to-air missile and Y-20 strategic transport aircraft".
