The US Air Force (USAF) may soon embrace a concept of fielding less expensive light attack fighters for counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations, in part to preserve higher-end fighters for other roles. "We're 15 years into a long campaign in the Middle East... so we've got to evolve in how we execute this campaign," General David Goldfein, USAF chief of staff, said at the American Enterprise Institute on 18 January.
