The two Iranian naval vessels that reportedly reached the Atlantic in November 2016 subsequently had to put into the South African port of Durban to carry out emergency repairs, Airbus Defence and Space satellite imagery shows. The Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (IRIN) did much to publicise the voyage of its 44th Flotilla, which consists of the frigate Alvand and the supply ship Bush-ehr, as an example of its ability to project power into distant waters.
