During the three months to 30 March Jane's tracked a total of 3 5 mergers and acquisitions (M&A) deals: an in-crease of 6% on the same period last year and slightly ahead of the rolling three-year trend of 32 transactions each quarter. The aggregate value of the deals soared to USD13.2 billion for the three months: the highest quarterly value since the third quarter of 2011, lifted substantially by the proposed USD10 billion merger between French aerospace and technology groups Zodiac and Safran and the proposed USD2.5 billion purchase of satellite imagery company DigitalGlobe by MDA of Canada. Deal activ-ity in the final quarter of 2016 was valued at USD2.5 billion.
