The US Navy (USN) will push back its decision to award a contract for the Future Frigate successor to the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) until fiscal year 2020 (FY 2020), USN officials told the House Seapower and Projection Forces subcommittee on 3 May 2017. A decision was originally expected in FY 2018. "The navy's revised acquisi-tion strategy is under develop-ment and will ensure designs are mature prior to entering into a detail design and construction [DD&C] contract," stated Rear Admiral Ron Boxall, deputy chief of naval operations and director of the USN Surface War-fare Division, and Rear Admi-ral John Neagley, programme executive officer of LCSs. "The navy will engage with industry in order to support an aggressive conceptual design effort, lead-ing to a request for proposals to award the DD&C contract in FY 2020."
