Following the refusal by Turkish officials on 15 May to grant German members of parliament access to the Luftwaffe contingent based at Turkey's Incirlik Air Base the following day, German politicians have called for a relocation of the country's military contribution to the fight against the Islamic State. This is the second incident between the two countries of this sort, the first having taken place in late 2016, when the visit was ultimately allowed to proceed. According to German officials, the Turkish side refused to grant permission for the current visit, which had been scheduled for quite some time, without giving any explanation or reason. Berlin has formally protested against the decision.
