Germany granted export permits for defence products worth EUR6.85 billion (USD7.67 billion) in 2016, the country's annual government report on the subject has found. This is a decline of around EUR1 billion compared to 2015's EUR7.86 billion. The downward trend appears to be continuing in 2017, as in the first four months of the year defence exports worth EUR2.42 billion were approved, compared to EUR3.3 billion during the same period in 2016. However, stricter approval rules have led to applications being made a second time after being rejected in 2016.
