China has signalled the start of a major restructuring programme featuring military research and development (R&D) institutes owned by state-owned defence corporations. The move has been announced by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense (SASTIND), following its approval by a SASTIND committee on 7 July. SASTIND said the restructuring is intended to spur capability advancement and increase efficiencies.
