A top US Air Force (USAF) officer wants the service to boost its Lockheed Martin F-35 A Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) annual buy to 60-80 aircraft. USAF Air Combat Command chief General James Holmes said on 11 July the service requested 46 aircraft in fiscal year 2018 (FY 2018). He told an audience at an Air Force Association breakfast on Capitol Hill the goal is to reach 60 F-35As per year and that the service believes 60 is financially attainable in a "best case" world. The USAF's F-35A is the conventional variant.
