US Vice President Mike Pence travelled to Estonia at the end of July to meet Baltic leaders ahead of September's Russian-Belaru-sian theatre-level 'Zapad 2017' military exercise. On 30 July Pence discussed the possibility of deploying US Patriot air defence systems in the country with Prime Minister Juri Ratas, who afterwards would only tell local media: "We spoke about it today, but we didn't talk about a date or time."
