The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) is facing a reduction in military air support due to the withdrawal of the Bangladesh Utility Aviation Unit (BANUAU) and the Ghana Aviation Unit (GHAV). The BANUAU was deployed to Kidal with three Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) Mi-171Sh helicopters in September 2016. A UN military source told Jane's that the unit left Mali on 10 November. The source said the GHAV completed its withdrawal on 23 October. It operated a Ghana Air Force (GAF) Airbus C295M from September 2014, first from Bamako and then from Gao.
