Reliance Defence Systems (RDS), a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure, has acquired Saab's 3.3% stake in Indian naval shipbuilder Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering, it was announced on 31 December. The value of the deal was not revealed but it forms part of RDS's recent efforts to expand its ownership in Pipavav. RDS acquired a 17.66% stake in the company in March 2015 for INR8.19 billion (USD124 million) and an additional 17% stake in December for an estimated INR8.5 billion, with the latter progressing through an open offer to shareholders.
