摘要

The early part of this century was a boom time for the unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) industry in the United States. From the demonstration of the usefulness of UGVs at the site of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York in 2001 through to US and coalition military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, thousands of medium and small platforms were rushed into service under urgent operational requirements. Programmes of record that included UGVs, such as the Future Combat System, may have died or hit delays, but the number of fielded vehicles rose.
