NATO defence ministers on 14 June approved the preliminary details for the pre-positioning of troops and equipment under a new 'deploy and deter' plan designed to dissuade Russian aggression. "We have decided to enhance our forward presence in our eastern and southeastern regions. NATO will deploy four robust battalions to the Baltics and Poland, for example, and do tailored measures in the southeastern area," NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters after the first day of a 14-15 June meeting. "There will also be more pre-positioned equipment and supplies. If any of our allies is attacked, the whole alliance will respond as one."
