Outgoing UK prime minister David Cameron told aerospace industry executives at the Famborough International Airshow 2016 on 11 July that a major new push for exports should be launched, backed up by revamped government support to industry, to compensate for the United Kingdom's imminent departure from the European Union (EU). Speaking at the Famborough Airshow after the contract awards for new Boeing P-8 Poseidon and AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, Cameron told an audience of aerospace executives that they must recognise the "new reality" of the United Kingdom leaving the EU. "We must accept it, we must make it work," he said. "We need to make the most of the cards in front of us."
