The UK's 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR15) introduced several areas of growth and expansion for the Royal Air Force (RAF) fleet of combat and intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) aircraft. Air Vice-Marshal (AVM) Gerry Mayhew, the new Air Officer Commanding (AOC) of the RAF's No 1 Group, headquartered at High Wycombe, had been the senior military officer in the Cabinet Office for the SDSR and, as a result, various issues in the SDSR have all come to him in his new post. "It's a case of what you sow, so shall you reap," he observed wryly.
