Germany's new defence White Paper, unveiled on 13 July, calls for an increase in German military, defence and security participation. Presented by Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen, the paper updates and outlines the country's national defence strategy, some 10 years since the last paper of its kind. According to the paper, the world is facing "crises and conflicts of unprecedented parallel and complex natures. Germany, due to its economic, political and military relevance, but also its vulnerability, must pick up responsibility.... Germany's security horizon is global".
