The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has begun a new operation against criminals operating near Lagos: the country's commercial capital. The NAF released photographs and video footage on 1 August showing aircraft involved in carrying out a strike earlier that day against a camp in Arepo, saying it followed the first such attack on 28 July. The Arepo area is a stretch of swamp that spans the border of Ogun and Lagos states where criminals tap into the System 2B pipeline that carries petroleum products from the Atlas Cove Depot on the coast south of Lagos to the city of Ilorin, 260 km to the north. This practice has caused fuel outages and large losses for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, as well as sporadic fires.
