Taiwan's president, Tsai Ing-wen, attended her first 'Han Kuang' live-fire exercise as commander-in-chief on 25 August and said her administration will seek to devise a "new military strategy" aimed at "charting a new direction for the armed forces and changing its culture". Speaking at the Joint Operations Training Base Command in Pingtung County, Tsai referred to the planned changes as "new regulations for operations that currently have no standard operating procedures and amendments to regulations where rules are currently unrealistic".
